Nearly 25,000 households in south-east Queensland found themselves experiencing outages on the start of the week after severe thunderstorms impacted the state, producing wind gusts topping 109 kilometers per hour.

Substantial Frozen Precipitation and Widespread Destruction

Homeowners reported substantial frozen pellets as large as 7 centimeters in certain regions. Meteorological experts verified that multiple regions across the state had been impacted by substantial ice precipitation.

Utility workers were focused on reestablishing electricity service throughout the damaged zones, with nearly 70 crews activated to address the widespread outages.

Weather Forecast

Damp conditions were predicted to continue along much of the state's eastern regions this week as a atmospheric system continued to pull in damp air against the shoreline.

The following day was expected to become the heaviest precipitation period, with ongoing storm activity predicted across various areas of both areas.

Health Warning

Health officials warned that there was an increased chance of thunderstorm-induced asthma across the northern rural areas, particularly given the existing atmospheric conditions.
