The EU might “act quickly and firmly” against what it deems “unjustified” travel bans issued by the US on five European individuals working on fighting digital hatred and disinformation, a European Commission spokesperson stated.
EU Officials Condemn US Action as ‘Coercion’
European leaders such as the French president charged Washington of “bullying and threats”, following the visa restrictions targeted figures who have been central to efforts to introduce laws governing US-based technology firms.
“For far too long, European activists have led coordinated campaigns to pressure US companies to punish American viewpoints they oppose,” wrote a senior US official in a social media post. “The current administration will not stand for such actions of extraterritorial censorship.”

Nations including Germany, Spain, and the UK, alongside numerous EU representatives supported France in condemning the decision.
The restrictions were enacted this week against an ex-European commissioner involved in crafting the EU’s Digital Services Act (DSA), along with several anti-disinformation campaigners, from Germany and the United Kingdom.
