Toy Story 5 Teaser Pits Woody and Buzz Versus a Tablet Computer
Exactly 30 years since the original Toy Story film debuted, establishing Pixar as a major animation studio and introducing viewers to iconic characters like Woody (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now famous worldwide.
Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, offering a glimpse into the plot but leaving fans curious how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Spooks the Toys
In the teaser shows the young girl — who received the toy collection when he grew up — receiving a brand new plaything, one that alarms the familiar toy group. Bonnie acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.
Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like the rest of her playthings. Still, the characters appear to consider it as a danger coming to replace them, which it likely will.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
An element the trailer doesn't touch on is what the sheriff is returned with his friends in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a new adventure with Bo Peep (the actress), journeying with a carnival and helping prize toys find good homes.
Certainly, Pixar will explain the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him show up in Bonnie's room without warning is somewhat puzzling, though. It also raises questions whether his partner will have returned with him. And where is the stuntman toy (the star)?
Continuity from the Previous Film
Fortunately, some elements are continuing from the earlier movie. The final act the cowboy did before setting off for his fresh path was pass his symbol of authority to Jessie (Joan Cusack), leaving her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser displays the insignia attached to her shirt.
Hopefully she is still the key figure among the toys.
Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on June 19, 2026.
